AIās Role in Content Manipulation
Have you been sleuthing to find out what happened with Princess Kateās Motherās Day photo like the rest of the internet?Ā TMZ is on the case, and it reports AI likely wasnāt the culprit of the photoās inconsistencies. However, thereās a larger conversation to be had about content manipulation and how easy AI makes it.Ā
It's not just about a photo looking a bit off ā itās getting harder to know if what we see online is genuine. As these AI tools get better at creating and editing images and videos, spotting the fakes isnāt as easy as it used to be. As a result, a new wave of doubt is cast on everyone, from Princess Kate to news outlets that the public has trusted for decades.Ā
What this means for communications professionals is doing whateverās necessary to maintain that trust and integrity. We need to do better than the Princess of Wales vaguely apologizing āfor any confusionā and disclose when and how we use AI to develop content. Our reputations depend on it.Ā

Tips and Tricks
Ā ChatGPTās Speech now available on desktop
Whatās happening:Ā Last September, ChatGPT added a feature to its mobile app that allows users to speak back and forth with the AI tool. Now, the speech feature is available on desktop, too. You can choose from five voices by going to Settings > Speech > Voices. Youāll notice that under each ChatGPT output there are three buttons ā the first icon, a speaker, is the Read Aloud function.
Why itās important:Ā Since you have to click on the speaker icon each time ChatGPT produces an output, and thereās no easy way to use speech-to-text for inputs, this doesnāt exactly replicate the conversation experience the app provides. However, this can still be a useful feature for communications professionals.
Try this:Ā Sometimes, when youāre so entrenched in what youāre writing, your eyes can gloss over words and mistakes happen. Using this feature, you can hear the output (or ask ChatGPT to recite an input back to you) instead of read it, giving you another way to review what youāre working on. Itās particularly useful if youāre preparing a speech or trying to replicate an interaction, like a reporter asking questions to an executive.
